It’s the contact with clay that has always attracted me to this profession. It seems like it has always been a part of me.
Zélie Rouby’s passion for ceramics started when she attended workshops in sculpture and clay modelling as a child. She trained both in wood turning and ceramics, but she soon specialized in clay.

Pure lines, solid colors, brute surfaces. Zélie works with grog, a gritty clay which is fired and then ground before being mixed in with other clays. This material allows her to go big—her largest vases are almost 2 ½ feet tall. She builds her pieces from the ground up, carefully coiling her clay to create vases, stools and other decorative items.

A promising young French talent, she has already gained international recognition for her craftsmanship. In 2011 was awarded the prize for “Intelligence of the Hand” by the Bettencourt Foundation, and in 2014 she received the Prize for Young Creators at the International Biennale of Ceramics at Vallauris and in the same year from the Ateliers d’Art de France.
