Blue Jar II

Zélie Rouby

Organic curves, rich colors, surprising textures. Zélie Rouby’s monumental ceramic vase is an experience in itself. The smooth outer surface of her blue vase with yellow highlights contrasts strikingly with the gritty grayish-blue “chamotte” interior. The sides of the vase appear to fall casually like a leather bag. The perfect accent for a contemporary living space or to add color to a patio or yard. Read more

Product details

Zélie’s vases are an exciting textural experience. She works with “chamotte” or grog clay, made of a granular ceramic material which has been fired and pulverized. Grog provides structure and rigidity, allowing her to go big. She creates each of her unique vases by assembling ropes of clay one by one, coiling them higher and higher until it reaches the desired shape and size. After firing, Zélie polishes the exterior, giving the piece a lightly weathered effect, adding depth and fullness.

The bottom has been pierced to allow rainwater to drain, if placed outdoors.

Why we love this: This large sculptural piece makes a beautiful, bold statement.
