Uniquely made to order?

This piece was created out of a single oak block, using a woodturning technique known as “blind turning.” The inside of the wood block is entirely hollowed out through a small opening which does not allow Maxime to see what he is cutting. He then sculpts the piece by hand, carving it with a gouge. The grain of the wood and the texture formed by the carving tool are enhanced by the application of black pigment which lodges in the large pores of the oak and highlights the contrasts inherent in the material.
