Product details
Ghislaine creates her stools by first knitting wool yarn into thin strips. She then blends the colorful knitted pieces into the raw wool during the felting process, painstakingly rubbing the wool fibers by hand with warm soapy water so the fibers will intermingle. The felt is formed into a tube and filled with compressed wool and a sturdy wooden plank before adding metal legs. Each stool takes months to make.
Ghislaine’s yarn and fibers are 100% wool, sourced in Creuse, France and Tyrol, Austria and tinted with all-natural dyes. Wool felt has thermo- and hydro-regulation properties that can’t be matched by any other fiber, natural or synthetic. Wool offers sound and thermal insulation, is water repellent, flame retardant and isothermal. It is also hypoallergenic, pollution absorbent and mold/mildew resistant. It is an entirely sustainable resource that respects animals and the environment and is biodegradable. The natural properties of wool are expressed in poetic and functional objects that warm the whole house.
Each stool is unique, knitted and felted by hand by Ghislaine in her atelier in Marseille.
